One Head Four People
Legendary Jazz Composer Roscoe Mitchell was awarded a 2024 grand by the American Academy of Arts and Literature and shortly thereafter began recording this quartet where he plays bass saxophone and percussion. Also featured are Weasel Walter on Drums, Damon Smith on Bass, and Sandy Ewen on guitar. As an audio landscape these recordings a both exploratory and innately intuitive.
One Head Four People creates an open space between four improvisers in an intense evolving dialogue. Called "Part of The American Iconoclast" by The New Yorker magazine, Roscoe’s mark on music and art is undeniable. Whether it is through his recent impressive orchestral works, his Art Ensemble of Chicago era, or his emerging career as a painter, he remains an impressive prolific master of the finest arts.

Roscoe Mitchell
Called part of the ‘American Iconoclast’ by the New York Times, Roscoe Mitchell has forged a lifetime of truly free music and has lead an inspirational life as composer, musician, and teacher. Currently Emeritus Chair of Composition at Mills College, a position once held by esteemed composer Darius Milhaud, Roscoe’s past is abundant with art and musical achievement and awards. His work with the A.E.C. the A.A.C.M are the majority of his recorded music, but he has also toured and performed with many of the greatest names of Jazz.
